Dačice is the easternmost situated town in South Bohemia, but its history began to unfold in the historical territory of Moravia. The first written mention of Dačice dates from 1183, and many monuments built during the Renaissance and Baroque periods have been preserved. The town enjoys "first-in-the-world" status in many respects, including the invention of sugar cubes in 1841. Dačice today is a modern town seeking to create good conditions for sport, culture and leisure activities for its residents and visitors.
A pleasant outing might be a visit to the suburban forest park with its Way of the Cross above the monastery complex. Nice views onto the town begin to open from the hill at an altitude of 501 m. There is a nature trail to acquaint visitors with the natural attractions in the area nearby, some stops being equipped with simple furnishings offering seating and relaxation, beautiful views of the Dačice countryside and shelter from bad weather. A favorite attraction in the summer season is the modern multi-purpose swimming pool with water attractions, recreational pool, and other sports options (beach volleyball, miniature golf, petanque, table tennis). Aviation enthusiasts shouldn't miss the Vilém Göth Museum of Aviation, founded in 2004.
The surroundings of Dačice are ideal for hiking and biking in the attractive area near the regional borders. Towards the Czech Republic, you can join in to the hiking paths leading through the Czech Canada natural park, while the beautiful Podyjí area opens towards Moravia.
